Read a sermon preached at the Induction of new ministers in January & February 2008 by Bishop Gavin Taylor here.

Welcome to the Pretoria Methodist City Mission - a diverse community grounding itself in the heart of the city for the sake of the gospel.

We are committed to seeking to be a faithful community that shares the love of God with the people of the city. As cities attract people from all walks of life, the needs of people here are huge and are as diverse as the people. As church we recognise and acknowledge that we are limited, but we trust the God who is unlimited and so with faith we do what we can to bring hope and healing to the hopeless and alienated.

At the centre of our activities is the Worship of God. We have three services on a Sunday:

  • 09h00 English
  • 11h00 Vernacular
  • 18h30 English

In addition we have a weekly Community Prayer on Wednesdays at 08h45 and groups/organisations services on Fridays and Saturdays. Small group meetings take place throughout the week as we seek to grow our members into passionate disciples of Jesus Christ.

The active steps towards reconciling and integrating the two congregations of the mission, i.e. the quarterly Joint services, provide the whole community with the joy of learning from one another and forming friendships.

The Wesley Community Centre - the project wing of the Mission - continues to reach out to the community. Countless people are served and ministered to through the Mahube HIV/AIDS clinic. We are grateful to all our partners for their support and we pray that they continue their support. In these tough times of the Global Economic meltdown, it is the poorest of the poor that we seek to reach through our projects who will be hardest hit. We pray to God that this does not happen!

We started 2009 with a new full-time minister for the English congregation, Rev. Purity Malinga. The Rev. Dr Gavin Taylor, who served this congregation for eleven years, has moved on to be a separated (full-time) District Bishop. Gavin built the City Mission to be what it is today. We praise God for his outstanding ministry! We trust God to lead Rev. Malinga as she leads the mission to the next step.
