Wesley Community Center

A story of mission in action, expressed through the life of 8 projects.

The aim of the projects are as follows;

•  Job creation, empowerment &skills development.

•  Community building and networking through service and outreach into    the wider community.

•  Income generation, helping to sustain mission in the city.

The projects are;

City Manna

Through the help of donors we were able to import a specialized baking iron from Germany in order to produce Communion Wafers. Through trial and error this project is taking root and is growing. The project employs 1 full time person and casual workers from time to time.

City Threads

This is a sewing project that has gained collective skills to develop and sustain itself. Clerical garments are the main products made but commercial work is also done. The project employs 1 full time person and casual workers from time to time.

Guidestar

This project offers office services to people in the community such as, typing, faxing, copying, book binding, etc. The project employs 1 full time person.

Mahube

Mahube seeks to bring comfort and hope to those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS through practical expressions of healing and care.

Mahube established in 2004 ,is a project of the Wesley Community Centre and supervised by the Methodist Church of Southern Africa.
The initiative is also part of the Sediba Hope Aids Programme, established to coordinate and empower church based HIV/AIDS initiatives in Pretoria inner city.

Mahube offers the following:

•  2 to 6 weeks bed care
•  Nutritious food
•  A warm caring & safe environment
•  Medical treatment supervised by volunteer doctors

Help us as we grow in providing more services for HIV+ children and adults in the inner city of Tshwane and beyond in collaboration with churches and faith-based organizations.

Wesley Conferencing Centre

This project provides the community and organizations an affordable meeting venue. It forms a vital way of opening doors to the community and offering the gift of hospitality.

Salem Children’s Centre

45 Pre-School Children meet here every day.  We cater for the needs of children in the Inner City. Our school fees are lower than the formal private Nursery Schools. Salem aims to provide quality care and solid pre-school preparation. We have 3 teachers and 2 cook/cleaners employed in this project, who pride themselves on providing a healthy, caring, Christian environment for learning and growth.

Salem Aftercare Centre

This project provides an affordable aftercare facility for 45 children. The aim is to help children with homework and also to provide them with a safe environment. We have two teachers, one qualified and 1 student who is employed at the centre. We are also in partnership with University of Pretoria, whereby some of their students do practical at the centre.

Wesley English Centre

This project provides an opportunity for foreigners as well as South Africans, to learn to speak, read &write and understand the English language. This enables them to find employment and get along in our country. We have 1 teacher employed by the project.

Livingstones

This project represents a major investment to mission as community in the Inner City. Single and double room units provide social housing for up to 30 people in the low income bracket who need to establish themselves in the city. Although this is a small project by social housing standards, it forms part of a larger ecumenical project in  a network of social housing initiatives in the Inner City.

Wesley Community Centre is committed to sustainable and collective development. Some of these projects are more than 10 years old and are now mostly self sustaining. Some objectives have been achieved but developing capacity and creating markets remain major challenges.
